Gay Marriage

Fifty percent of all marriage ends in divorce. I've been married twice, divorced once. I'm living proof of the statistics at work. Do they really think that they can beat the odds?

Personally I don't see the big deal for either side of the argument. I am curious however how the courts will handle the divorces. Has the gay community considered that yet?

Sure gay marriage seems to be gaining in popularity but it is really going to confuse a lot of judges when they try to give custody of any adopted children, or divide the marital assets. How does alimony work when there is no wife? What about child support payments when there is no father? I'm getting dizzy thinking about it and I'm not even a judge.

I can imagine a judge in divorce court trying to consult with his legal staff trying to figure out all the mess that would be a gay divorce. There is no precedence for any of it so it would be under extreme scrutiny by both sides. No matter which way the divorce judge rules in a gay divorce someone would criticize it.

I even see our President talking about amending the constitution to outlaw gay marriage. I thought our constitution was supposed to give us our freedoms not take them away. I think that the insurance rates would also go up since you would have more people on the same insurance. I think the gay population should take a look at how many people are miserable in their "normal" marriage before they decide that's what they really want.

If it's really what they want, and they have TRULY thought out all of the above, and have set guidelines to follow in the divorce proceedings then I say go ahead. Give it a try. I'll see you in the statistics.
